A regulation 1839 Pattern infantry enlisted man's cartridge belt plate, sheet brass with embossed "US" and lead-filled back with remnants of two steel loops for securing to cartridge box. Appears to have been dug, brass has a very dark original patina with some dirt in low protected areas. Steel loops have deteriorated and edges are bent. A minie ball has pierced through between the "U" and "S" and area around lead ball is concave from impact. Lead on bullet and back appear to have an authentic patina. This is an interesting and rare find, a great addition for any cartridge, bullet, or belt plate collector!
