French and Indian War-type hand-forged crescent head fitted with faceted spike at rear, measures 8 - 1/2 inches overall with 6 - 3/8" curved edge. Appears to have the original wooden haft, measuring about 20" and fitted with 4" conical brass spike at bottom and brass cap over top of eye. This piece is illustrated in figure 8 of page 58 of "Indian Tomahawks and Frontiersmen Belt Axes" by Hartzler & Knowles. Very nice as found and dry condition, head retains a heavy brown spotted patina with some losses to edge and spike tip slightly rounded. Surface shows some oxidation and brass retains dark green patina. Haft dry and showing some scattered marks: CORRECTION:This is French and Indian War period. Norman Flayderman collection. Sold for $9000.00 at Cowen's in 1990's.
