Thomas North worked in Southhampton, England between 1804 and 1838 according to "English Gunmakers" by Bailey and Nye. Both pistols with round smoothbore barrels, separated by solid rib and stamped on bottom of each with British proofs. Patent breeches engraved with scrolls and inlaid with gold band and muzzles decorated with stiff leaf borders. Tops of barrels of each pistol inscribed "North/South"ton". Bottoms fitted with steel rib and swiveling steel ramrods. Engraved scalloped boxlock actions with double hammers engraved en suite and sliding half-cock safeties on each side, double triggers. One piece walnut bag grips with checkered panels and silver oval wrist escutcheons monogrammed with "G". Upright tea-caddie case with burled veneer, lid features an oval brass escutcheon with engraved initials "ONJ". Partitioned interior of green velour and with pistols stored upright, side-by-side with accessories below, inside of lid embossed "T. North/South"ton". Accessories include a small copper flask, bullet mold, oiler, key, cleaning rod, ball puller, screw driver, nipple wrench, wooden spare nipple reservoir, and wooden percussion cap box. Pistols are in excellent condition, steel surfaces bright with some light spotting, grips show some light wear. Case shows some scattered storage marks and minor losses to veneer on some edges. Interior with some fading and minor staining, edges with some minor fraying. Accessories very good, showing some wear and light marks from use. This set appears to have been made with this case and is in a very unusual configuration, with pistols upright, probably for use on a desk.
