Block is stamped "US MODEL 1873". Side plate is stamped "U.S. SPRINGFIELD" with eagle. Barrel has the "VP" Eagle proof. 1873 rifle rear sight. Left side of walnut stock has an excellent "SWP" (Sam Porter) dated 1888 in rectangle. Bottom of stock has a proof "P" with serifs in circle. Features replaced high blade front sight, blue finish, ramrod and case colored block. Block retains 40-60% color. Balance of metal is a homogeneous blend of blue with patina. The stock is excellent with the usual minor bruises. Buttplate stamped "U.S." and bands are stamped "U". Retaining springs retain the majority of the fire blue finish. Fine action, strong clean bore. Includes a brass double frog U.S. leather sling. A fine, far above average Indian Wars trapdoor rifle.
