Browned rifled steel barrel with bayonet lug/sight mounted on top near muzzle and flip-up rear ramp sight adjustable from 100 to 800 meters, stamped "BESTIRON" with British inspection marks. Breech marked with British proof marks and two "25" marks. Flat percussion lockplate stamped with a crown at the tail and marked "1861 / TOWER" in center. Complete with chain and steel nipple protector with leather buffer. Standard brass and steel Pattern 1853 Enfield furniture. Full length walnut stock with brass end cap and original steel ramrod. Barrel retains generous traces of brown finish with some light scattered marks from use. Bore is very good and shiny. Lock retains a grey patina with some minor dark areas. Stock excellent with a few scattered marks from use and one area of minor loss on left side of forend behind rear barrel band. Furniture retains a mellow patina. Markings very good throughout. This was one of the primary muskets used during the Civil War by both the Union and the Confederacy.
