Many of this pattern rifle-muskets were imported for the American Civil War and saw use on both sides. This example is fitted with a mount for a saber bayonet on the right side and is marked with Liege proofs at the breech. The percussion lock and hammer are both marked "BC" with an anchor. Standard brass furniture except for a shield-shaped wrist escutcheon with an American eagle in relief that was added during the period of use. Barrel bands and ramrod are steel. Rear sight is absent. Walnut stock has initials "S.T." carved on left side of butt. Barrel, bands, and lock retain a grey patina with some scattered spotting and marks from use, some corrosion at breech. Brass retains a mellow patina and stock has some scattered marks from use and wear. This gun certainly saw use during the Civil War.
