Nice early 20th century officer's ensemble in a leather presentation case lined with green velour. Includes sword presented to Captain John C. Hawk, canvas sword case, gilt brass Model 1851 eagle belt plate on black leather belt with swords hanger, strap marked "M.C. LILLEY & CO. / Manufacturers / COLUMBUS, OH." Sword features a slightly curved etched nickel blade with gilt background. Right side features etched designs including scrolls, patriotic flags and arms motifs, and a splayed American eagle with "E. PLURIBUS UNUM" banner. The other side has a large "U.S.", scrolls, and arms motifs, ricasso marked "THE / M.C. LILLEY / & CO. / COLUMBUS, O." Spine with gilt panels of foliage and scrolls. Gilt steel standard Model 1912 hilt with bone grip containing finger grooves. Ornate nickel-plated scabbard, right side etched with presentation to "Capt. John C. Hawk" on a stippled background. The scabbard has high relief gilt mounts, the top features a silver eagle with enamel shield and the initials "JHC" monogrammed in silver. The center mount shows Theodore Roosevelt mounted and dressed in cavalry attire. Drag shows a relief eagle wrapped around the drag. These mounts are very unusual and detailed! Blade is in excellent condition with some light wear to gilt. Hilt retains almost all of gilt finish with a few minor freckles, grip has one minor chip on right side, near pommel. Scabbard very good, mounts retaining almost all of gilt finish, back of body with some minor losses to nickel. Belt and buckle are excellent, leather with some minor marks. Case interior is very good with some light fading and marks, exterior with scuffing and edge wear. Overall, this is a spectacular and early Model 1902 officer's presentation sword with a rare presentation case and complete with the belt!
