Probably American. Slightly curved steel German blade with single fuller on each side, both sides dated 1759 and marked with stars and running fox. Crude hand-forged iron guard and pommel, braided steel wire-wrapped grip. Dark heavy patina overall with some corrosion and scattered marks from use, blade has some nicks to edge. A nice early Revolutionary War period hanger.
