Designed for the U.S. Army by George S. Patton in 1913. Patton suggested this change from a curved sword and edge to a thrusting style of attack, following his extensive training in France. Polished straight tapered double edged diamond section with deep single fuller on each side. Marked at top on right side "U.S." and small stamp below. Other side stamped "L.F. / (large flaming bomb Ordnance proof) / & C. / 1918". Top of blade fitted with steel washer. Parkerized standard Patton-style guard with three embossed lines. Grip with parkerized and checkered thumbprint panel on top and two piece black hard rubber grips. Complete with original canvas scabbard with green painted steel mounts. Complete with leather sword knot. Very good condition; blade has much of its original polish with scattered areas of grey spotting, showing little or no use. Hilt retains about 95-98% black finish with a few scuffs and minor marks on guard. Grip and pommel are excellent with a few light marks. Grip screws have almost all of original finish. Scabbard excellent with some scattered staining and and light scuffing. Mounts very good with some discoloration and small areas of paint loss.
