Circa 1750-1770. Featuring two birds, one on each side, shaping the cross blade. Spear features a narrow armor-piercing point. The iron head is mounted on a round faceted conical socket. This is a very early American halberd. Original tapered octagonal haft measures 66". Head has been cleaned and retains a spotted grey patina, spur beneath bird is missing the tip on one side and the other spur is slightly bent. Haft has a dark original patina. This halberd is photographed and shown on page 197 as plate 14.PA in "Swords & Blades of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. The caption states that at the time it was photographed, it was part of the Edmund Budde, Jr. collection.
