Manufactured 1870. This rare musket is part of a group of an entire collection of Winchester muskets dating from 1866 to 1895 that took the consigner nearly 50 years to complete. Offered is an extremely fine 1866 musket. Features full round barrel, extended magazine, military post front sight, folding ladder rear sight, brass frame, blue loading gate, three bands, two sling swivels, and brass carbine buttplate with trap. This rifle remains in excellent condition. Barrel and tube retain approximately 85-90% original blue. Front barrel band retains 75% blue. Rear two barrel bands are grey patina. The mustard yellow frame has never been cleaned. Lever and hammer colors have darkened. Stocks are very good to excellent with usual dings. Brass buttplate never cleaned. Most of the screws still have the majority of their fire blue finish on frame and buttplate. Fine action. Strong, rifled bore is near mint. Comes with an angular socket bayonet. The Model 1866 musket was termed the Infantry rifle. This is definitely one of the finer examples.
