This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2018
Manufactured 1903. Standard features include round barrel, full magazine, twin bands, post front sight, folding ladder rear sight, blued finish, case colored hammer and trigger, walnut stock, carbine butt, rear-only sling swivel and saddle ring with stud. This carbine has seen very little use as evidenced by the 100% intact Nitre blue loading gate, which shows literally no wear but one thin pencil-dot silver spot. Barrel and tube retain 99% of the original factory blue finish with razor sharp legends. Barrel bands retain 95% original blue with just minor high edge wear. Brilliant case colors on hammer. Traces of case colors on lever, balance patterned out. 85% original factory blue on buttplate with wear at high spots. Right side of frame retains 80% bright factory blue with some small areas of flaking and two small areas at bottom of frame and forearm of some roughness. Bottom of frame retains 90% bright blue. Loading gate retains 70% bright blue. Blue-brown patina on top of chamber. 85% blue on balance of frame and tang. 85-90% on left side of frame with some minor age flaking. Light roughness on bottom of frame 1/2" next to lifter, otherwise bottom of frame and tang retain 95% blue. Wood is near mint and proud to metal with just a couple of minor bruises mostly to left side of stock. Mirror bore and fine action. According to the Winchester Book some carbines were only furnished with a sling swivel plate mounted on the stock and no forward sling swivel. The sling was intended to be attached to the stock sling swivel and carbine saddle ring. It appears to be factory. This carbine has seen very little use and most of the wear is simply age flaking from the frame. Research confirms shipment of .44 caliber musket September 18th 1903. No other information available.
