Probably circa 1790, British musket made by Sharpe and imported the United States, probably for militia use. Features a round smoothbore steel barrel marked with two British proofmarks on left side, near breech. Bayonet lug mounted on top, near muzzle. Rounded lockplate with single line border, stamped in center with American eagle and vertically at tang "SHARPE". Detached pan and goose-neck cock. Plain brass English style furniture, steel sling swivels and ramrod. Plain walnut stock of familiar English form with relief-carved beaver tail around barrel tang and brass nosecap. Excellent condition, overall, showing very little use. Barrel and lock retain an even brown patina and markings are excellent. Lock is in original flintlock configuration. Brass retains a mellow patina and has a few scattered marks. Stock is excellent showing a few light storage marks, edges are sharp. This is a rare musket made for the American market in exceptional condition.
