This model French pistol was copied by the United States as the basis for the Model 1799 North and Cheney flintlock pistol, which was the first U.S. martial pistol produced. Tapered round smoothbore steel barrel marked "18" on left side, near breech. Brass frame with lock on left side, converted to percussion. Inscribed "St. Etienne" below hammer, complete with nipple protector and chain. Brass buttcap and triggerguard, and steel ramrod. Walnut grip. Very good condition, steel components retain a spotted grey patina. Belt hook removed during period of use. Frame and brass components have a dark unpolished patina with some light scattered marks from use. Grip very good with some light scattered marks.
