The maker of this period counterfeit "Deringer" pistol is unknown. Due to its popularity, many people copied and made counterfeit pistols marked "Deringer". For a nearly identical example by unknown maker, see page 122 of Volume I of "The Deringer in America: The Percussion Period" by R.L. Wilson and L.D. Eberhart. Very similar to an authentic Philadelphia Deringer in most respects. Round rifled steel barrel with top flat and patent breech engraved with scrolls, small sights on top. Back action percussion lock with engraved scrolls and stamped "DERINGER", hammer engraved en suite. Walnut stock of familiar form, checkered panels around grip, and plain German silver Deringer style furniture. Triggerguard engraved with scrolls. Very good overall, barrel and lock retain a light grey patina and show very little wear, bore is very good. Stock good, but checkering is nearly worn away and edges show some wear. Furniture retains a mellow unpolished patina. This is a very interesting and particularly nice period imitation of the famous Deringer.
