Typical of these Artillery revolvers, they were rebuilt in the 1890's using original Cavalry revolvers; serviceable parts were reassembled and barrels shortened to 5 - 1/2", and subsequently reissued to Army troops in the Philippines at the turn of the century. The frame on this revolver, No. 131291, has the "R.A.C." (Renaldo A. Carr) inspector stamp. The barrel is No. 1297 with "D.F.C." (David F. Clark) inspector with two proof "P"s. Trigger guard is No. 119560, as is backstrap. Cylinder is No. 137124, under stamp "585" with "K" sub-inspector. No visible cartouche on walnut grips. Frame has three line patent address with U.S. stamp. Barrel legend is near mint. The frame shows traces of case colors. There are traces of original blue on trigger guard and backstrap. Balance of gun basically grey patina. Front sight slightly filed. Walnut grips are very good, shy at all corners. Donut ejector rod head with traces of blue in hidden areas of ejector rod tube. All four correct colt clicks. Aligns and locks up tight. Strong bore. Muzzle slightly rounded from holster. Traces of blue in cylinder flutes. Nice, honest, homogeneous Artillery.
