Tapered diamond section steel blade with etched panels on both sides, right side with patriotic arms motifs, scrolls, and large "U.S.", the other side with arms motifs, scrolls and an American eagle holding an "E. PLURIBUS UNUM" banner, right side of ricasso marked "THE/M.C. LILLEY & CO./COLUMBUS, O." Gilt cast brass hilt with guard featuring a relief patriotic eagle, folding counterguard features a patriotic shield and arms. Front of guard inscribed "from/Capt. Wm. R. Harp TO Lieut. W.R. Moore/Oct. 10, 1895." Shagrin grip with twisted gilt brass wire accents. Nickel-plated steel scabbard with gilt cast brass mounts. Complete with later gilt sword knot. Blade very good with scattered areas of grey spotting. Hilt retains about 90% of gilt finish, grip with some light wear. Scabbard has scattered areas of dark spotting and retains generous amounts of gilt on mounts. A very nice 19th century presentation sword.
