This exact rifle is listed in the book "Inventory of the Winchester Firearms Reference Collection" page 98 item 592. Offered is an extremely unusual rifle; it is a factory German Mauser sporting rifle made by V. CHR. Schilling, stamped on right barrel. "SUHL PRUSSIA" on left barrel. On the left barrel is also engraved "9M/M W.R.A. COMPANY. 1-7-1905". Obviously used by Winchester for ammo testing, but the rifle is all Mauser. Features an octagon to round barrel with full matted rib, bead front sight, stippled bridge, case colored bolt and frame, Lyman mounted receiver sight (probably Winchester), straight bolt with round bolt knob, case colored floorplate and trigger guard, sling swivels, and checkered pistol grip straight comb stock with case colored grip cap and smooth buttplate. Floorplate and trigger guard retain 30% brilliant case colors. Walnut half stock features Schnabel forend and wundhammer wood side panels. Fine bore and action. Beautiful Mauser sporter in its own right with the unusual Winchester tie-in. Complete with the above listed book and with a custom made contemporary poster for display that reads "WINCHESTER TEST RIFLE".
