The .45 Gov't short case, total length 2 - 5/8", fits but we suggest a chamber cast if considering shooting. These were manufactured circa 1866 to 1871 by the Providence Tool Co. of Rhode Island. Most of these are found with little to no use, sold as surplus. Many were shipped overseas. Features post front sight, flip-up rear, single band, saddle ring and stud, carbine butt, walnut stocks. Manufacturer stamped on left. Cartouche no longer visible. All metal is brown with some salt and pepper texture. Action is fine. Strong rifling with usual black powder residue. Has a light ring inside bore 1" from muzzle. These carbines appear on the market far less often than the rifles.
