Manufactured 1888. One of the scarcest of all Marlin lever action rifles, it was only in production for one year, being replaced with the Model 1889. Total production of this model was a scant 4,814 rifles in all calibers, barrel lengths and types. Featured a short throw top eject action, blued finish; case colored hammer, lever and buttplate; with plain walnut stocks and rifle butt. It was the second Marlin lever action rifle after the Model 1881. A total of 1,776 rifles were manufactured in .38-40. This rifle remains in lovely untouched condition. The loading gate retains approximately 70% original blue. Balance of all metal is a smooth, pleasing blue-brown patina. Features knifeblade front sight and sporting rear. Sharp legends. Excellent walnut stocks are proud to metal with beautiful finish and very few minor dings. Strong, clean barrel and fine action. Has simply a lovely plummed patina devoid of any major scarring or obtrusive damage.
