This was the mainstay battle rifle of the German Infantry during the first World War. Manufactured by several makers to include Amberg, this rifle was assembled in 1917. Its most distinctive feature being the "Roller Coaster" rear battle sight and the side of the frame is stamped "GEW 98". Serial No. 3570 can be found stamped on the frame, left side of barrel with the "S" stamp for the .318 bullet. Bolt and safety are numbered 5002. Floorplate and trigger guard are numbered 1585. Stock is numbered 3570. Rifle is missing the Mauser bolt release on left side. Frame is finished in the white and stamped "AMBERG 1917" on bridge with crown. Features full length stock with small hand guard. Standard in all respects. Barrel retains 70% original blue with age freckling and patina mix. Wood is excellent with all Imperial markings; missing the forend cap retaining spring. Visible rifling. Good example of a typical mismatched German World War I battle rifle. Missing a couple of small easy-to-find parts to make it complete.
