The Model 1866 was referred to as the Second Model Allen Trapdoor, manufactured 1866 with approximately 25,000 altered using Springfield Civil War muskets. The lock on this example is dated 1865 with "U.S. SPRINGFIELD". Block is stamped 1866 with eagle head. Features full length walnut stock with visible but not readable cartouche on left side. Has three barrel bands. Barrel is finished in the white. Traces of colors on breech block. Stock is excellent with owner initials "FK" on left side. There is a 1/8" circular cut at muzzle at base. Fine bore and action with original cleaning rod. Far better than average example of a Civil War conversion.
