Lemuel Pomeroy manufactured a total of 36,940 of the Model 1816 muskets between 1816 and 1839. This example features a drum-bolster alteration to percussion using the new percussion sporting style hammer. Round smnoothbore steel barrel with a bayonet lug mounted on top, near muzzle and traces of markings at breech. Lockplate is stamped "L. POMEROY" in center below an eagle and dated 1830 vertically on the tail. The musket features standard Model 1816 type III steel furniture. Also features a small German silver oval wrist escutcheon and a large eagle-shaped German silver presentation plaque inlaid on the right side of the buttstock, inscribed "Benjn. Taylor/5th N.G. (National Guard) July 17, 1836. Plain full-length walnut stock with steel ramrod. All steel surfaces retain a spotted and freckled grey patina with heavier corrosion at breech. Lock markings very good and spur of hammer is absent. German silver inlays are unpolished. Stock has some scattered marks from use and comb has been reduced during the period of use. This is a very nice presentation conversion musket.
