Made in Baltimore by H. Merrill with total production at 14,495. Features full round barrel; brass patchbox, buttplate, trigger guard and band; walnut stock. Barrel, sideplate and frame are basically smooth brown patina. Left side has saddle ring and bar. Walnut stock has no visible cartouches. Stock is very good with small chip at rear tang and some chipping at edge of forearm. Brass has been at one time. This is a First Type with patchbox. they saw wide issue to Union Cavalry regiments including the New York 1st, 5th and 18th; Pennsylvania 11th, 17th and 18th; New Jersey 1st; 7th Indiana; 1st and 3rd Wisconsin, 27th Kentucky and the 1st Delaware. Strong rifled bore and fine action.
