The New Model 1863 carbine came with or without patchbox, with this example having the patchbox on right side, which is twice as scarce with total production at 20,000. Manufactured until the 1865 Model was introduced. Arguably the most popular single shot breechloading carbine and certainly the most reliable of its genre. Features full round barrel, single band, Lawrence folding ladder rear sight, saddle ring and bar, drop breech, walnut stocks and carbine butt. Sharps patent dates on both sides. All metal is basically brown patina. Wood is very good with usual dings. Iron patchbox is brown patina. Fine action and near mint, shiny bore. A very good example of a Civil War carbine that has not been converted.
