Comprising: A) Model 1840 Cavalry Saber, which was designed using the Model 1822 French hussar's sword as a template. Unlike the Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber, this sword has a ridge around its quillon. Blade is unmarked and features a large shallow fuller on each side and a thin deep partial fuller along the top. Brass hilt with two branches and leather wrapped grip with twisted brass wire, large dome on pommel. Steel scabbard with two large hanger rings. Blade retains a grey patina with some areas of deep corrosion and some darker spots. Hilt retains a mellow patina with some scattered marks from use, grip very good. Scabbard retains a spotted grey patina with some minor denting. B) Standard Model 1840 Non-commissioned Officer's Sword. Straight single fullered blade, Cast brass hilt and grip. Blade retains a grey patina with very good Ames and "U.S. markings. Hilt retains a mellow patina with some light marks from use. A very nice lot of two pre-Civil War American swords.
