Manufactured 1897. Stembridge Studios in Hollywood, California was the largest gun rental company to the motion pictures during the Silent Era. At its height, their inventory consisted of tens of thousands of historical firearms that were rented by the studios for use in just about every movie ever made that required a firearm. One can only imagine how many Westerns this early Colt was used. The cylinder and barrel retain 50% of a long ago reapplied blue finish. Barrel markings are sharp. Frame has two line patent address. Matching numbers on frame, trigger guard and backstrap. Underside of barrel is stamped ".44". Frame is stamped with a large "S" with serifs for Stembridge Studios. Wears a pair of period Colt gutta percha grips. Frame and straps are basically a gun metal grey. Muzzle is slightly rounded from holster wear. Indexes fine with a strong bore. Great opportunity to own a piece of Hollywood Western memorabilia.
