Possibly a Rhode Island or Virginia rifle. Octagonal rifled steel barrel is unmarked, notched rear sight with adjustable notch. Flat lockplate converted to percussion and stamped in center "SOUIRE/& CO." Plain brass furniture includes buttplate with patchbox release button on top of tang and four-piece pierced patchbox with edelweiss finial. Sideplate decorated with rocker panel engraving and features brass screws. Partially figured maple stock has been cut down to half-stock length and has brass end cap, oval-shaped cheekpiece. Barrel has some freckling and scattered marks, brown and grey patina. Lock retains a matching patina. Furniture retains a mellow patina and stock has a few small losses around lock and towards tip of forend. A nice rifle with very nice form and a nice patchbox!
