The Model 1841 was adopted in 1841, but was not manufactured until 1842. Straight diamond section steel double-edged blade, right side of ricasso marked “USN/18--/JCB” and opposite side of blade is marked with partially visible Ames markings. Silver-plated cast brass hilt, front of guard stamped with rack number "4I/2B" and back of guard stamped "31". Grip with relief scales and eagle on each side on pommel. Blade retains a grey spotted patina with minor freckling and edge wear. Hilt retains a dark mellow patina with generous traces of silver finish and some scattered marks from use.
