Manufactured 1853. This fine Dragoon features all matching numbers including wedge and loading lever. Top of barrel has the New York City address. Left side of barrel is stamped "JH" inspector (Joseph Hanis recorded as inspector for Colt Third Model Dragoon in the book "U.S. Military Arms Inspector Marks" by Daum & Pate page 94). Left side of the frame is stamped "COLT'S PATENT U.S.". Cylinder has the roll-engraved Model USMR with cavalry scene. Features round brass trigger guard and brass backstrap. The butt of the gun is stamped 63 on the backstrap and both grip panels; probably rack number. Right side of frame has a "K" inspector stamp. Cylinder scene remains at approximately 40-50%. Left side of trigger guard has a "K" inspector stamp. Left front trigger bow has a "J" inspector stamp. This is a beautiful, untouched, far above average dragoon. All metal is a clean, smooth, soft homogeneous patina. Brass has never been cleaned and has some areas of verdigris. Virtually no pitting with the exception of a few small spots on cylinder and left recoil shield. One piece walnut grips are excellent with a few dings. Indexes and locks up like new. Screw heads are almost all basically true with just some light distortion. Extremely sharp rifling with some minor black powder abrasion. This is just the way you like to find these guns, clean and untouched. A fine example if a U.S. Military Colt Dragoon.
