Gun (A) features full nickel finish, silver medallion two piece walnut grips. Left side of barrel is stamped "Russell, Majors & Waddell Pony Express Presentation Model". Right side of the barrel is stamped "Colt .45 Peacemaker". Backstrap is engraved "Salt Lake City to Fort Laramie". The cylinder that is installed is fluted. This gun comes with two extra cylinders, both of which are numbered to the gun, both non-fluted. One is engraved with the founders and pony express rider, the other is engraved with the route starting in St. Joseph, Missouri and ending in Sacramento, California. Gun (B) is a Colt Single Action Frontier Scout. The entire revolver is gold plated with deluxe walnut grips with gold medallions. Right side of the barrel is stamped "Colt Single Action Frontier Scout .22 LR". Both guns remain in unfired condition. This incredible collection was put together by Ed Younger of New Jersey. He purchased the .45 and .22 caliber guns in 1961 and 1962, and includes the original dated permit to purchase with both guns listed by serial numbers, all original applications to the police department and receipts from the Pony Express History & Art Gallery. It also includes the receipts from where he purchased the official medals of the Pony Express Centennial Association; eight medals in a Plexiglas case. He also purchased five original Pony Express 100th Anniversary First Day covers in 1960, the 1960 Centennial Pony Express rider's bible covered in leather in gold on cover "Presented by Russell, Majors & Waddell 1860", and a hard back copy of the Story of the Pony Express issued 1964 and serial numbered to gun with 1,000 copies and signed by Waddell Smith. The medals were purchased on June 25th, 1965 and were printed at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia (with receipts). Mr. Younger assembled all these items in a custom made oak display case. An impossible to find complete set with all documentation from the original owner. Obviously, due to the date of manufacture, the .45 Colt is an early factory nickel Second Generation. 1,007 of the Pony Express Centennial Scouts in the first year Colt made commemoratives. The Pony Express .45 had 1,004 made in 1964; so to put the set together, a customer had to order each gun three years apart.
