Frame was built between March 1945 and June 1945. Barrel is stamped "H&R 7.62 NATO" with three star DOD stamp, dated May 1965, SA No. 11010457. Stock has a block style proof "P" with no serif or circle, no other cartouche, is made of birch and is a period replacement. In the mid-1950's the U.S. Navy began to develop a 7.62 NATO M1 Garand rifle. These were service grade rifles. This is a Type III with the H&R conversion. Assembled at H&R in 1955-56 and were designated the U.S. Rifle Navy Mk II Model I Cal. 7.62mm. Receivers on Type III were not marked "NATO". Used an original SA barrel. Has the enlarged gas port hole. Stock is an obvious replacement. Bolt is stamped "6528287-SA 814". Has a "D.R.C." stamped right sight adjusting wheel. Trigger guard is stamped "C46025WRA". Metal retains nearly all of its arsenal applied finish. Fine bore and action. This information can be found on page 189 in the book "Collecting the Garand II" by J.C. Harrison.
