Little is known about this unique system, where the entire mechanism is contained within the hammer, mounted on a side-lug converted Model 1836 pistol. Round smoothbore steel barrel is stamped "US/JCS/P" and has a small brass half moon front sight and oval rear sight mounted on the tang. Blued flat lockplate with beveled edges and rounded tail section, stamped in the center with a small eagles head and "A. WATERS/MILBURY, MS./1837". Fitted with Gedney self-priming hammer marked "PAT. MARCH 15, 1859/AMC PRIMING & ARMS CO./NEW YORK". Standard steel Model 1836 furniture, many parts stamped with small inspector's marks. Steel swivel type ramrod with button plunger. Plain varnished walnut half-stock, marked with two deep inspector's cartouches, "JA" for John Avis and "HKC" for Henry K. Craig. Very good condition, all steel components retain a light grey patina, and have a few scattered light marks from use and minor freckling near breech. Stock very good with a few scattered marks, small crack at rear of lock tang. This is a particularly unique and unusual example, rarely available for purchase.
