Lot contains a Nazi era Luftwaffe 1st Model sword (A) and a 19th Century Prussian M1889 sword (B). (A) The Luftwaffe “Fliegerschwert” sword has a 30” nickel plated blade made by “SMF” (Solingen Metallwaren Fabrik) in Solingen. The handle and fittings are made from aluminum, and the handle is covered in blue leather with a wire wrap. The gold finish is intact on the emblems. The scabbard is blue leather with aluminum fittings. The sword hanger is present, however both attaching loops are damaged. The blue leather scabbard has only one small nick in the finish. The blade exhibits a few scattered light marks and a couple of spots of freckling. Overall the sword is in excellent condition. (B) The lots also contains a 19th Century Prussian officer’s Model 1889 sword with a black painted steel scabbard. The sword has a 31” nickel plated blade made by “W.K & C” (Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Company” with the king’s head and armored knight emblem. The blade is also marked on the other side “Deutsch.Offiz.Verein, Berlin”. The handguard is in brass with the Prussian emblem attached to the shark skin wire wrapped grip. The pommel cap has a coat of arms engraved on it, and the side of the pommel is inscribed with the name “von Hartmann”. The scabbard is a black painted steel pre-1908 dual ring type, with the hanger attached. The unsharpened blade exhibits some freckling near the tip and scattered light marks. The scabbard appears to have been repainted. The sword is in very good condition. A sword knot comes with this lot. The Luftwaffe sword is a very desirable example.
