Gun (A) is a unique, one of a kind Third Model .38 single action Model of 1891 prototype. Serial number is 0, which can be found on butt, cylinder and latch. The barrel has two small Birmingham proofs. the main difference between this and the standard Model 1891 is that the standard Model 1891 is not stamped on the barrel, which not all were. Otherwise, it is a standard model to include round barrel with rib, pin front sight, flared hammer, five shot, single action, nickel finish with Smith & Wesson black composition grips. Serial No. 1 was manufactured in 1891. Both grips have a little chip at the base and are not numbered. When grips are removed there is a stamp that reads "D 4 3 24" which would could indicate that gun was either refinished or originally finish in 1924. Gun does not appear to have been refinished as all legends are sharp as new. Overall, this revolver retains approximately 97% original nickel, with the exception that it appears someone tried to hand clean the area the sideplate and left numerous scratches. Strong case colors on hammer. Trigger guard is grey. Fire blue extractor and latch. Indexes and locks up like new with a strong, near mint bore. These pre-serial number prototypes are never seen in any model and are twice as rare in a 19th century model. Gun (B) is a fine .38 single action Second Model. This revolver has the 1877 patent date on top of frame. Matching number on cylinder and barrel. Features five shot, single action, round barrel with rib, pinned front sight, case color, spur trigger, blued ejector and latch, and Smith & Wesson logo hard rubber bird's head grips. Revolver retains approximately 97% original nickel finish. Right grip panel has a chip at bottom. Bright case colors on hammer. Grips show wear and given condition of revolver have probably been replaced. Indexes and locks up like new. Near mint bore. A fine pair of 19th century single action Smiths, especially rare with prototype.
