J. Dickert was one of the most renowned Lancaster County, Pennsylvania long rifle makers around the time of the Revolutionary War. At some time, somebody brought this barrel to a custom gunmaker to have it modernized utilizing the original signed barrel, incorporating into a newer and more contemporary half stock sporterized design. A Partridge percussion lock was installed, a new stock was made that features pewter forend tip, brass trigger guard and rifle buttplate, brass patchbox, rollover cheek piece with and inset Moravian star possibly from original rifle. Has a nickel thumbplate on wrist. Metal is basically a deep rich dark chocolate brown patina. Stock is excellent with rich finish and no cracks or repairs, just a couple of chips around lockplate barely worth mentioning. Extremely strong rifling. Fine working order, albeit hammer spring tension could be attended to. Fine 18th century rifle derived from a famous Lancaster, Pennsylvania gunsmith.
