Approximately 12,501 manufactured 1862 to 1865. Features two brass barrel bands, forend tip, trigger guard, buttplate and patchbox. Blued barrel has bayonet lug for saber bayonet on right side. It was considered one of the best made and designed military arms of the Civil War. Its military designation was Harper's Ferry pattern. The sideplate is dated 1863 and is stamped "REMINGTONS ILION NY (eagle) US". Top of the barrel is dated 1863. Has "VP" eagle head proof on left breech, also stamped "STEEL" with "RKA" inspector mark (Remick K. Arnold, the chief inspector for the Remington 1862 rifle). Features a simple blade front sight and a two leaf folding military rear sight similar to Springfield. Left side of walnut stock has two cartouche stamps in box "BH" (Benjamin Hanis) and "HDJ" (Henry D. Jennings). Barrel bands and buttplate are stamped "U.S.". Buttplate is stamped with the number "10" rack number. This gun has seen little to no use; barrel has 97% bright factory blue. Walnut stocks are near mint, the case colors on lock and hammer have patterned out, nipple shows no signs of having been fired. Near mint bright bore. Includes old non-military sling.
