Has an iron forend tip changed in 1859, twin barrel bands, sling swivel on middle band and trigger guard, and military post front sight with military two leaf folding rear. "VP" proof on barrel. Sideplate is stamped "U.S. SPRINGFIELD" and dated 1859. Has Maynard tape priming system installed. Metal was finish in the white and now has a grey-silver freckling appearance. Full length walnut stock is in excellent condition but cartouche is no longer visible. Fine working order. Strong rifling and minor black powder abrasion. Far above average condition for one of the most well used rifles of the Civil War.
