Factory letter states that rifle Serial No. 30190 was shipped on July 9th, 1878 with a full octagon barrel, set trigger, checkered straight grip stock, factory sling swivels and in full factory nickel finish which includes all metal parts with the exception of the fire blue rear sight elevator. All legends are sharp as new. As usual, the nickel plating shows areas of brown spotting as the nickel flaked or bubbled; still retains at least 85% of this rare factory finish. Has the early Second Model recessed thumbprint dustcover on screwed-in rail and there are no caliber markings as the .44-40 was the only available caliber at this time. The Second Model 1873 bears the distinction of having the shortest production run of all three models. Wood is excellent with dark fiery grain on both sides of stock and razor sharp checkering. Fine action. Strong, near mint bore. An extremely handsome and rare early deluxe Second Model 1873 Winchester in very scarce full nickel plating.
