Factory letter states Serial No. 31588 was sent on April 12th, 1879 with full nickel finish and fancy stocks, which is what we have here. Every metal part on this rifle, with the exception of the folding rear sight is factory nickel plated. Barrel legends are sharp as new. Has the Second Model recessed thumbprint dust cover that rides on screw-in rail. Front sight is forged into the front barrel band. Features saddle ring and stud. The walnut "fancy" stock shows beautiful grain on both sides. Forearm has a bit of grain. As in most full nickel guns, there are small spotted areas of finish loss that have turned brown patina; that said, this little carbine still retains 90% overall factory nickel finish. Fine action and strong rifling with minor black powder abrasion.
