Manufactured 1876-77. Features round barrel with rib, top break, spur trigger, five shot, single action, factory nickel finish, case colored hammer and Smith & Wesson logo black composite grips. Matching serial number written in pencil on right grip panel. Matching serial number on back of cylinder, barrel and barrel latch. Has weak spring on barrel latch. Missing top frame screw. Barrel and frame retain approximately 99% original nickel. Cylinder shows no signs of burn and retains 97% original nickel with some minor flute wear. Indexes and operates fine. Strong rifled bore. Comes with the excellent original green partition box with image of revolver listed as "NO. 38 AUTOMATIC EJECTOR SPRINGFIELD, MASS" and includes paper and cleaning brush. Box has dealer label in base and no signs of a serial number. This is one of the earliest serial numbers we have seen and condition is nearly unimprovable.
