Gun (A) German Model 88 Commission Rifle (Gew 88). This rifle was produced at the Spandau factory and is dated 1890. Frame is stamped "Gew 88", bridge is stamped with the "S" for ammunition type. Barrel features the distinctive shroud, right side bayonet lug, numerous Imperial stamps, 1800 meter rear sight. Mismatched serial numbers, trigger guard is stamped 6386, screws stamped 86, rear barrel band 86, front barrel band stamped 86, bolt handle is stamped 2229, bolt is stamped 97, safety is stamped 77. Buttplate screws are replaced. Metal has been blued over existing peppered texture. fine action and strong bore, excellent wood with usual dings. Gun (B) German Mauser Model 1871/84. The rifles were issued in 1886, manufactured at Erfurt, model stamped on frame, rifle was manufactured in and dated 1887. Matching serial numbers on frame and barrel. Safety stamped 30, firing pin 36, rear band 11, middle band 72, front band 21 and numerous German Imperial proof marks. Walnut one-piece stock, no handguard. Military 1400 meter rear sight. All metal is in the white. Stock is very good with numerous abrasions, missing rear barrel band spring. This model is easily identified by the modified addition of an eight-round tubular magazine. Strong clean bore and fine action.
