Both cartridge boxes are made of wood and leather with hallmarked sterling silver lid and furniture. One features an applied gilt brass intertwined "VR" under a crown for Victoria Rex, Queen of England. Box lid measures 7-1/2" long, 3" tall, with four hallmarks, furniture is also hallmarked. This example has a leather and gilded belt with gilt hardware. The second box is identical in shape and construction with a different style border engraving, four hallmarks on front and hardware is also hallmarked. Lid features a large applied gilt brass eagle. A magnificent pair of presentation militia officer's dress cartridge boxes, worn by only those of distinction. From the Ray Bentley Collection.
