Cast as a nude male figure holding an eagle-headed boat and on a marble base, the plaque engraved as the "Coupe Challenge d'aviation du Journal La Meuse 1910", the side of the vessel engraved with an inscription to "Henry Farman" and with the same date. The base with German 800 standard mark, the figure and vessel with French import marks. Henry Farman (1874-1958), an Englishman born in France, was an early aviator and manufacturer whose company, Avions Farman (1908- 1941), supplied planes to France in WWI. In 1908 he made the first European cross-country flight. Height 19-1/2". From the Ray Bentley Collection.
