Manufactured 1943. The Union Switch & Signal produced the fewest contract pistols during World War II at 55,000 total. The only manufacturer that produced less was Singer at 500 due to a cancelled contract. Slide features the unique stamp on left side "USS" along with "U.S.&S. CO. SWISSVALE PA U.S.A.". Left side of frame has the "RCD" inspector stamp in circle for Robert C. Downie. Top of the slide has the sans serif proof "P" as well as on frame, a practice that began at Serial No. 1060000. This pistol features the short checkered trigger, spurless checkered hammer, checkered arched mainspring housing with loop, checkered safety, Type II upward slope checkered slide stop, star Keyes brown plastic grips and blued barrel. Left lug stamped "P" and right lug stamped "H S" for High Standard. Magazine has pinned base and is stamped "L" (M.S. Little). This gun remains in near new condition inside and out. The arsenal finish showing minor high edge wear only with razor sharp stamps and edges. Fine bore and action. One of the better surviving Union Switch & Signal pistols. CORRECTION: This is am original USS arsenal dulite finish not re-finished.
