This is one of the highest grade examples of an early bright blue factory finish U.S. Army .45 we have ever encountered. The left side of the frame is stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" along with the "WGP" in circle inspector stamp for Walter G. Penfield from 1911 to 1914. Left side of slide is the early version with the "FEBRUARY 14TH 1911" last patent date and pony on left rear. Right side of slide is stamped "MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY". Rear of hammer channel stamped "H". Slide has the early Type I rounded rear sight and small half moon front. All early small parts to include long smooth blue trigger, finely checkered slide stop and safety, short checkered wide spur hammer, blued flat mainspring housing with lanyard, beautiful diamond checkered walnut grips. Blued barrel is stamped with sans serif "P" only at rear, barrel is a replacement as a correct barrel would have an "H" sans serifs. Accompanied by an extremely scarce so-called "key-hole" two tone magazine with five view holes, pinned base and lanyard. It is obvious this pistol saw very little use. Frame has some high edge wear, retains 95% of the original factory finish with some thinning on mainspring housing. Slide retains 97% original finish with high edge muzzle wear and some light wear through finish on right side of slide forward of ejector port. All stamps and edges are razor sharp. Grips are near mint. Fine bore and action.
