Manufactured 1940. A total of 4,695 pistols were manufactured during this year, making it one of the scarcer pre-war blued U.S. Army Models. This is also one of the best condition 1940 examples we have examined. The slide retains at least 98% of the original factory blue military finish with razor sharp edges and legends, with just some minor high edge wear and a few of the usual military storage dings. There is a sans serif "P" stamped on top of barrel with proper sights. Left side of slide has pony in center with "AUGUST 19TH 1913" last patent date. No markings on right side of slide. Serial number stamped on hammer channel "718063" (matching). Left side of slide has the "CSR" inspector stamp for Charles S. Reed who was the major inspector during the 1938 - 1940 period only. Left side of frame has a sans serif "P" with another on left trigger bow and "VP" verified proof triangle. Right side of frame stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" with serial number and "M1911A1 U.S. ARMY" and "60" on trigger bow. Comes with original fully checkered walnut grips, short checkered trigger, short wide spur checkered hammer, checkered slide stock and safety, and checkered arched mainspring housing with lanyard. Left side bottom of blued barrel is stamped "COLT .45 AUTO" with proof "P" on left lug. Comes with a tempered, two tone, five view hole, pinned base magazine. This barrel was first used at serial number 710001 (correct). The front grip strap is basically grey patina while the balance of frame retains 90% original factory blue. The "CSR" inspector stamp along with the letter "G" can be found stamped on the top rear flat of frame. An extremely fine condition all original matching 1940 production blued U.S. Army.
