This rifle was one of the few sold from the California penal system in the 1970's and attributed to Folsom Prison. These rifles were advertised in the "Shotgun News" according to the previous owner. They are traditional Model 70 rifles with an unusual saddle ring attached at the forward trigger guard screw location. They are all mounted with a Lyman receiver sight and a slot blank filling the rear sight slot. These where sold in the mid-1970's with an assortment of other state owned firearms (obviously this was when the state was run by more business friendly people). A rack number of "R 15" is stamped upon the pistol grip base with no other property markings found. The rifle shows evidence of a possible refinish at a much earlier time.
