This was an extremely popular configuration and caliber. Imported by Britain to service their colonies, especially India for the use of tiger hunting. Features full round barrel, 1876 ladder front sight, button magazine, blued finish, walnut stocks and shotgun butt. The barrel is a pleasing, smooth mix of soft blue-brown patina with razor sharp markings. Numerous British proofs on barrel and frame. Sideplates retain 50% of the bright factory blue mixed with brown patina. Balance of frame has dulled to a blue-brown patina. Case colors have patterned out. Walnut forend has been refinished and is shy to metal. Walnut buttstock has been refinished and is shy to metal with a poorly repaired crack at wrist and a chip at tang. Smooth steel buttplate. The dust cover is lightly pitted and has been reblued with wipe-on finish. Fine action. Strong, clean bore. Very handsome rifle as is but with some attention to the stocks and the dust cover, it could really be enhanced. CORRECTION: Factory research confirms all features. Shipped May 3rd, 1881.
