This Second Model 1873 is an obvious special order rifle with a very uncommon special order barrel length. Rifle appears to have been originally shipped with a factory saddle ring stud on left rear of receiver. This has been period removed and filled with appropriate screws. Exterior finish on barrel and magazine is a contemporary restoration. Receiver is a mellow patina overall. Two piece wood stocks are a period gunsmith-made replacement with a oil type finish. Front and rear sights are proper Second Model sporting front and elevator adjustable rear. Bore is very good with strong rifling and mechanics function properly. Special order barrel length Winchesters in any model are a great oddity and very desirable.
